We invite all those who have always dreamed about playing percussion (particularly those who built their first drum kit using pots and pans from the kitchen) to enrol in a course at our school. We also welcome percussionists who have already been playing for a number of years and would like to improve their skills.
Percussion lessons at Republika Rytmu cover: learning the basics of a drum roll as well as exercises using the whole drum kit. We teach how to play with a metronome, from sheet music as well as playing by ear. We provide all learning materials as well as helping in the selection and purchase of an instrument.
Beginners are taught about the anatomy of a drum kit and learn how to correctly hold drum sticks as well as maintaining correct body position whilst playing. More advanced students can perfect their skills and drum rolling technique as well as discover some of the tricks of the trade in reference to improvisation as well as working on speed and dynamism.
If you don't own your own drum kit, we warmly invite you to practise on the school's drum kit in our musician's room.
For children aged 3-7 we have a specially tailored programme. These lessons develop the musical imagination of the child, shape their sense of rhythm and craft musicality. Children work in small 2-5 person groups according to their age and level of ability.
The uniqueness and attractiveness of our lessons comes from the combination of teaching rhythm in a group coupled with individual percussion lessons. Within our lessons we utilise a broad range of musical instruments such as: drum kits, maracas, tambourines, cowbells and other percussion instruments. In our rhythm classes we play and teach with the ethos " hear, feel, do, name, practise, remember".
The children learn songs and musical poems but also move in time with music and take part in games to develop rhythm. They are introduced to how notes are written, they play with metronomes and backing tracks to their favourite songs where they are introduced to the concept and inherent importance of improvisation. Several semesters of this type of lesson prepares the child for individual percussion lessons.
We pride ourselves on teaching lessons that are diverse and varied. Within our lessons we utilise a broad range of musical instruments such as: drum kits, maracas, tambourines, cowbells and other percussion instruments. Additionally children can try their hand at playing percussion, piano, bongos as well as learning songs and musical poems as well as taking part in games and rhythm exercises. Each class lasts 45 minutes and takes place in 3-6 person groups thanks to which we can ensure an individual approach to each child. After a few months of class participation, children are ready for individual drum lessons or performances in the "Little Drum Scene" series on Centrum Amarant stage.
Enrolment for the course runs throughout the year. To begin with, we invite you to a trial lesson (65zl/60mins for adults and 60zl/45mins for children) with no obligation to continue, but which gives you the opportunity to get to know the teacher and to familiarise yourself with the course programme.
In the case of group percussion + rhythm classes for children (2-5 children per group), the teacher will recommend the appropriate age group. Lessons take place once a week and last 45 minutes.
All materials such as notes and course books needed for the course are provided by the school and the student doesn't incur any other costs other than the course fee. After the first lesson, the teacher will advise the student as to the most appropriate drum sticks to buy.
